What is the difference between a Psychic and a Medium?

A lot of people do not discern between a psychic and a medium, but there are some very notable differences. These are quite clear to the gifted people who possess these abilities, but to the uninitiated, it can become confusing. The term “psychic” covers a lot of abilities, as you will see.

A psychic is, simply put, someone who is sensitive or responsive to energy outside of the physical or normal realm of most people. These abilities include being able to “see” the future, know what others are thinking, having telepathic talents, as well as having visions about the past, present or future.

Scientist would say that psychic people are actually just tapping into a portion of their brains that we all possess. Psychics tend to have a handle on how to use this part of their brain as easily as the rest of us use the “normal” parts of our brains. Other people just feel that it is a very strong intuition some are blessed with.

A medium is someone who can communicate with spirits from people who have passed from the physical plane. Those with medium abilities are able to see, hear and speak with the dead, although this can happen in a few different ways. This is one of the main differences between psychics and mediums. A lot of psychics cannot communicate in this way.

A medium is also able to perform phone readings, as well as in person readings. They can even do readings over the internet. Some mediums can simply focus and “call up” a spirit, while others must wait until a spirit contacts them. Mediums who have been practicing for years usually have more control over how the communication is initiated.
