What is an Indigo Aura?

[edit] The Presence of Indigos Explained
Indigo people are people who have the presence of an Indigo colored aura around them, as opposed to the lighter blues and greens of most people. This darker colored aura is supposed to represent a more dramatic and expressive personality, as well as a higher sense of the spirit world.
[edit] Finding the Indigo aura
The Indigo auras were supposedly first discovered by Nancy Ann Tappe. In 1982, she wrote a book called "Understanding Your Life through Color," in which she revealed the fact that she had been seeing Indigo auras much more frequently, starting in the 1970's. She believed this meant that a new form of humans was beginning to evolve. She believed that these "blue children" were more spiritually aware than other people, and also that they had distinct qualities separate from the normal person. Tappe believed that by the year 2010, 97% of children under ten would be Indigo, and that 60% of adults born since 1970 would be as well.
[edit] The meaning of different auras
The traditional belief about auras is that the color of an aura can change, depending on the mood of the person. Some people, however, assign one color of aura to different people permanently. These permanent auras are largely based on the personality of the person, and might be able to change over time. Supposedly, good people have brighter auras than evil people. Although telling a good person from an evil one is often hard to do.
With the introduction of the idea of the Indigo aura, a whole new speculative world opened revolving around the blue children. It seems odd that there would suddenly be so many people intimate with the spiritual world, but that is, supposedly, what Indigo children are able to do. However, there is no real evidence to suggest that today's children are more spiritual than any other generation of children.
[edit] Blue children in the real world
Children who allegedly have these indigo auras are different from other children and adults. They are more sensitive, and are likely to be identified with such disorders as ADD and OCD. This is largely due to the extreme perfectionist trait in Indigo children, as well as their frustration with long periods of nothing or busywork, as is often found in the traditional classroom.
There are Indigo schools that have been designed to meet the unique needs of Indigo children. However, if you suspect that your child is Indigo, but still don't want to send them to an Indigo school, or can't, then enrolling them in some other form of creative school will work just as well. Montessori schools are a great place for Indigo children because it allows them to work alone at their own pace and on subjects that interest them the most. Of course, Indigo children can do well in public school as well, as long as they are given the resources to keep them occupied. Having an Indigo child enroll in after school activities, or enrolling them in the gifted programs is the best way to avoid trouble with teachers and other children.
