Do a quick search for a reincarnation quiz on any search engine and many fun, amusing, and free quizzes with titles such as “what will you come back as”, “find out who you were in a past life”, or even “which famous celebrity were you” will come up. Like most other quizzes about your personality, your love life, your relationships, and etc., quizzes about your probable previous life or potential future existence are quite enjoyable and entertaining to take. While filling out those questionnaires may be an interesting way to pass the time, the outcomes of these quizzes are of course to be taken with a grain of salt. Often, the results of an online reincarnation quiz are rather comical and hilarious, with the final scores saying things like “you will be reincarnated as a cockroach in your next life”, “you previously worked as an elephant in a carnival show”, or “you were Marilyn Monroe in your past life”. Obviously, many people would scoff at and really rather not believe in the first two results, but not surprisingly, there have been people who have been claiming that they really are the reincarnate of American actress and timeless sex symbol Marilyn Monroe.

A run-of-the-mill reincarnation quiz easily found on any of the countless tests and quizzes websites is, more often than not, silly, nonsensical, and just plain ridiculous. These seemingly harmless fun quizzes can actually be detrimental, as they do not help in the cause of making people (particularly in the Western world) fully accept and seriously believe in reincarnation as a doctrine. Because these short, multiple question type questionnaires are made solely for entertainment purposes, they unintentionally mishandle the belief of reincarnation and treat it without respect. Those who take these types of quizzes should keep in mind that if they really want to find out about their past lives, they should seek the help of professionals who are educated in and have studied the belief of reincarnation.

As many as there are absurd and senseless quizzes out there, there have been times that a reincarnation quiz would result in an eerily accurate description of the quiz taker. Of course it could be just pure coincidence but in reality, quizzes about past life experiences are really just personality quizzes in disguise. If looked at closely and compared side by side, reincarnation quizzes do not differ much from regular personality quizzes. Most of the questions in a reincarnation quiz are worded in such a way to assess the quiz taker’s judgment, choices, and preferences, which is the same way a personality quiz would be made.

Go ahead and take a “who were you in a past life” quiz if you like, but remember that they are not to be taken seriously and should be in no way considered as a short lesson in reincarnation. A way for these quizzes to be of actual use is if they make quiz takers become interested in truly exploring the possibilities of having lived a previous life and fully understanding the concept of reincarnation.
