Raymond Moody's life changed after he wrote the book Life After Life. He was born on 30 June 1944 and studied to become a medical doctor. However, his first love and interest was not medicine, but paranormal phenomena such as near death experiences, which initiated his curiosity about what happens after death. So interested was he in the topic, that he obtained a double PhD degree in Philosophy, one from the University of Virginia and another from that of West Georgia College. Soon afterwards, Raymond Moody earned his MD degree (Medical College of Georgia, 1976) and took up the position at the University of Nevada as Chair of Consciousness Studies.

[edit] Psychic and author

His deep interest and studies on near death experiences as well as the bestseller book he wrote, Life After Life by Raymond Moody, make it look like he is a believer of the afterlife. Contrary to common belief and what is written in Raymond Moody Life After Life, he does not subscribe to the idea that there is indeed a "beyond". He believes that all the accounts he recorded from the people he interviewed are true; however, he feels these would be more hallucinative effect rather than really seeing the gates of Heaven opening to welcome them.

[edit] Life After Life

After Raymond Moody Life After Life studies continue to seek the truth about the life beyond death, which logically do seem to lead anywhere. However, in spite of the massive effort and time Dr Moody poured into it, it looks like there is no consensus regarding the order of events and even the way people experience this beyond life realm. Unfortunately, the Life After Life by Raymond Moody has created a number of controversies from religious points of view, even though all the author did is represent the facts he chronicled during his studies. As mentioned earlier, he has clearly stated that he did not believe that what these people saw and felt when they were near death and later resuscitated, was a glimpse in the world beyond the shadow of death. Since, he is not able to explain it logically, he continues with his investigations hoping that he would be successful in correctly interpreting it in the end.

Though Raymond Moody's life goal is yet to be achieved, a few things have emerged uncontested, such as what are the general traits of the near death experiences. Most people felt sad not happy when they came back to life, which is unusual, considering that consciously all humans (and living beings as a matter of fact) want to live and fear death; a good number of people saw people who were dead beckoning; there is a feeling of floating and extreme peace; people usually feel they are moving through a tunnel like space and so on.

Though the book Life After Death by Raymond Moody has become so famous and successful, other than creating an exceptional movie it has not really done much good on the topic. Rather, it has stirred a hornet's nest regarding what should or should not be interpreted as a continuum of the journey of our soul.
