There are two pieces of popular and highly studied pieces of prophetic literature. The first is the Bible and the second was written in the 1500s by Nostradamus. Each claims to know the truth of what the future has and will hold, but both can not be correct as they do not always see eye to eye unless misinterpreted to a point.

[edit] Biblical Prophetic Literature

The Bible is jammed full of prophetic literature from cover to cover, book to book, beginning to end. All prophecy in the Bible is centered on God and is only considered truthful as substantiated as being from God through the use of interpreters. Interpreters are necessary especially when the prophecy is given to someone who doesn't understand its meaning.

There are two types of prophecy in the Bible that are spoken about: true prophecy and false prophecy. False prophecy is any prophecy given that is not from or of God. There is always a demand throughout the Bible for people to test the spirits. True prophecies are those that have definitely come from God and have been interpreted to be from God.

There are many ways for God to show people prophecy, as recorded in the Bible. There are also many types of prophecy shown throughout the Bible. The first is for the individual. Personal revelation usually comes with the prophetic dream. The Old Testament is perfect prophetic literature to see the dream type of prophecy. The second kind deals with apocalyptic prophecy. This kind deals with the end of time and the return of Christ. The third kind of prophecy seen in the Bible is called messianic,or dealing with the Messiah, who many Christians already believe to be Jesus Christ.

Because of the immense amount of prophecy seen in the Bible, some have created a scientific way to look for answers in this literature. They call it the Bible Code, which is also a series of books regarding the process and the findings of this scientific exploration. It takes a book from the Bible and spools it on to a cylinder and uses skip letter coding to find any other prophetic idea that may be hidden in code throughout the Bible's books.

[edit] Nostradamus: The Centuries

Nostradamus was a French prophet living during the 1500s. He wrote a prophetic literature piece called The Centuries. The prophetic ideas have been interpreted in many ways, but are in no particular order which has made them difficult to understand and left them open to much scrutiny and open interpretation. He dealt with astronomy somewhat throughout the book. Some people have tried to connect the prophetic ideas he wrote down with those in the Bible, especially the book of Revelations. Even today, some people claim to hear Nostradamus's voice and say they are carrying on his prophecies as they are writing down what they say will happen in the future.

His prophecies are just as debated as the Bible's are and just as popular. They are written in Quatrains and grouped together. They have been covered by many professors and discussed on many blogs. Even the history channel uses them when talking about how the world may end. Nostradamus's prophecies in The Centuries is definitely literature of a prophetic nature that has inspired much thought and debate about what is to come.
