Parapsychology

Parapsychology is the study of certain psychic phenomena. In other words, the study of interactions with the world around a person that are new, or seem to not be understood, by many other people. It is a controversial field of scientific study, as it does not incorporate almost anything related to common or modern science, as we know it today, However, this kind of research is definitely very unique.

This research began in the mid to late 1800s, and peaked in the 1970s as a result of public knowledge and tolerance of psychic ideas and occult happenings becoming common. Today, it is at a very low point as the results obtained back in the 1970s were very inconclusive. There are some institutes that have not yet shut down today. However, they still perform experimental research on people claiming to have unusual interactions with the environment around them.

Various uses of research have labeled this particular area of study as unethical and not reliable. Many people who oppose this type of research have tried to discredit it several times, but no one has been able to say the research is completely illegitimate with solid proof to back it up. No one can say, either, that this kind of research is completely legitimate due to lack of solid proof to back up any findings claimed. People who study in this area have been labeled as new age scientists among other things. This field of study is definitely not for the easily offended.
