Water can represent many things in dreams. It is usually a very powerful symbol no matter how it shows up. It can represent failure, cleansing of wrong-doing, or a past that tends to haunt you, freedom from something or someone that has been holding you back, and more. It usually tends to be a spiritual representation of something personal in your life. Water is amazing because it can break through solid objects, yet is a needed element to sustain all life on the planet.

[edit] Water Dream Scenarios

  • You are drowning and there is no one there to help you.
  • You are able to breath and swim underwater and feel extremely peaceful.
  • You are stuck in a down pour or surrounded by a storm.
  • There is a flood of water coming into your home or office or other location.

[edit] Meanings

  • These kinds of dreams may mean you are in a crisis and feel that there is no one there to help you out. Likewise, it could be that you have been denying whether or not you can trust certain people in your life, including family and/or friends. A third option is the spiritual idea that you need to find a higher power to lean on and get help from. Finally, you may feel you are being left alone or left out, and have recently become very depressed.
  • Another meaning water can have equates to feeling content and/or satisfied with your life physically and spiritually. Maybe you just had a good day, month or year, and your subconscious is giving you a treat through your dreams. Peaceful dreams about water can be very relaxing and reassuring to the mind and spirit.
  • If the water in your dream is coming across in a threatening or dangerous manner, it could be your life is in turmoil, whether you've been avoiding it or not. You may feel like you have never ending problems that seem to never get to the solution or light at the end of the tunnel. Another possibility here is that you are dealing with extreme stress in your life. Even if you've been handling it well, a dangerous dream about water could be the mind or soul's way of releasing some of that stress. If you are all alone in this type of dream situation, it could mean you, personally, are having some issues with faith and understanding. If there are people there you recognize, and they are suffering as well, it could be that you need to move, or change your lifestyle. You may even need to pull away from some friends for a time. If you don't recognize the people it may be a way of letting you know who to stay away from.

[edit] How seriously should you take your dreams?

The answer to this question lies somewhat in the dream itself. Sometimes we dream strange and unusual things for no apparent reason. Other times there is a meaning we are meant to look for. One thing you can do if your dreams are disturbing, or are repeating over and over, is to create a dream journal. Here you will write every dream down in as much detail as you can remember. This type of journal can show you what you have been dreaming, and help decipher any meaning the dream, or dreams, have for you, personally. Also, if you are having the same dream over and over again, the dream journal can pinpoint the consistency of that dream. It will be easier to be focused on this dream more than others, or in collaboration with other dreams.
