Famous Cases of Reincarnation
From DiscoverPsychic
There are thousands upon thousands of documented famous cases of reincarnation. The well-known and much disputed studies of Dr. Ian Stevenson (known as the founder of scientific reincarnation research) alone provide details and information on more than 3,000 people who remember having lived in another time in the past. There are numerous other accounts of past life recollection, - some even dating back to the time of the Ancient Greeks, Aztecs, and the Egyptians, - but perhaps the one that brought the age-old belief into the media spotlight and blasted it into the mainstream Western culture in recent modern history is that of Bridey Murphy.
Bridey Murphy is one of the most famous cases of reincarnation. Her story begins in November of 1952, when hypnotist Morey Bernstein put a Colorado homemaker named Virginia Tighe in a trance. Incredulously, Tighe began speaking with an Irish accent and recalling memories of a life that she herself did not live. When asked who she was, Tighe said that her name was “Bridey Murphy”. Using 19th century Irish intonation and words, Tighe began recounting details of the life of Bridey Murphy, including that she was born in 1798 and died in 1864, she inhabited a house called “the meadows”, she bought food from grocers William Farr and John Carrigan, and many more. Several of these facts turned out to be true; her recount of Antrim was accurately detailed and there were indeed two grocers by those names who lived during that time. However, as the story of Bridey Murphy became increasingly popular, the more the scientific community, fact checkers, and skeptics found holes in her story. Despite all of the attacks on the story’s integrity, Bridey Murphy remains one of the most famous cases of reincarnation and the public continued to be intrigued and fascinated by her. Songs such as “The Ballad of Bridey Murphy” were written about her, a movie entitled “The Search for Bridey Murphy” was made, and Bernstein’s book of the same name became a bestseller.
Another one of the famous cases of reincarnation is that of Shanti Devi. Born in December 1926, Shanti Devi was only 4 years old when she began speaking of her husband and children from her past life as a woman named Lugdi Bai. What makes this case exceptional is that since only less than 2 years had passed between Lugdi’s death and Shanti’s birth, many of Lugdi’s family, friends, and relatives were still alive to confirm Shanti’s past life recall. Even when people tried to trick her, Shanti correctly identified her husband, became emotional upon seeing her son and parents, and navigated through her previous hometown of Mathura without difficulty even though she had never been there before. The case of Shanti Devi was and is the subject of many researches, studies, books, articles, and journals up to this day. Aside from being one of the most famous cases of reincarnation, Shanti Devi is still one of the strongest evidences of past lives, that souls experience a rebirth, and that our spirits go through many lifetimes in the span of hundreds or even thousands of years.
