Christian Prophetic Art

Prophetic art in any form is much different from a dream, vision, or Word from God. Prophetic art may be prophecy hidden in a beautiful piece of artwork, but it can also just have a special meaning for one person or a small group of people. Regardless of what God is trying to portray through this type of medium the artwork is beautiful and, if you take the time to ponder it, has a deep seeded meaning to it as well.

[edit] How is prophetic art accomplished?

Some people paint, others draw, and still others write music, poetry, create sculptures and more. Many people in this world create some form of art. The difference is that those who create prophetic art are listening to the Holy Spirit and are being guided from within by God. This creates a Christian prophetic viewpoint from inside the art to the outside viewing public. Those who create this kind of art usually accomplish it before, during or after prayer or worship. Some just feel the Holy Spirit guiding them as they are sitting at home writing or playing their music. Others pray for inspiration and it is granted to them as they begin with their creation.

[edit] The difference in Christian art and Christian art that is prophetic

However, this kind of art can be confused with everyday art created by someone who is a Christian. Christian music, while lovely, is not necessarily prophetic in nature. Instead, a Christian prophetic musical piece would be considered something that speaks of the future. In addition, not every prophetic musical piece will speak of the future in blatant, obvious comments and will not speak to everyone. There may be just one person out there who needed to hear the music or see the painting or sculpture and it was that seeing or hearing that changed them somehow.

[edit] Early dismissal

For many Christians, this type of Christian prophetic path is not common and is therefore ignored. However, there is danger in dismissing this art. There could be something there that is obvious to you that you do not take the opportunity to see. Most Christians agree that if you ignore one way God tries to get your attention He will come up with another. However, for the type of people who are very driven by creativity, this kind of prophecy is just the right way for them to understand what God is trying to say to them.

Another kind of dismissal is not so much dismissal but ridicule. Some people feel God speaks to them in prophecy through artwork, but never tell anyone for fear of ridicule and stereotyping. There are some Christians who feel hearing from God through a painting is silly and not prophetic in any way or form. Therefore it is important to understand that they are just as human as everyone else in the world and that when God has a message for you it is meant to be between you and Him, unless there is something there He is telling you to share or you have a trusted friend in which to confide.

[edit] The beauty

A song is a song. A painting is a painting. However, the beauty of artwork when mixed with prophecy can be very beautiful and eye popping. Sometimes there is so much detail it is hard to ignore. Other times the pure simplicity of a piece can urge you to dig deeper for the meaning behind it. Even if the message is not meant for you, it is just beautiful to hear or see what God has created through the individual.
