Bad luck superstitions
From DiscoverPsychic
People are found more readily following and observing bad luck superstitions more than good luck ones. If asked why, you would find that most of them readily observe the superstitions that talk about misfortune and bad luck because they fear they would come true; while most disbelieve that good luck charms and beliefs are possible. Moreover, a good majority of these beliefs does have a reason remotely scientific behind it.
[edit] Some common bad luck superstitions
There are many common beliefs that are observed throughout the world and what is astonishing that many of these with a little variation here and there, would be followed in Europe exactly as it would be in Asia where life and traditions are completely different. This implies that these beliefs comes from a long ago era when the world was more or less compact and that these were spread throughout the world and from generation to generation without much distortion. Some of the most common bad luck superstitions are listed below; check out how many you believe in from these:
1. Salt - spilling salt normally indicates two things, (1) you would get into a fight with someone close; (2) you would lose money. Looking back in ancient times, you could easily understand the origin of this belief. Salt was very expensive in those days, and it was used to pay salary. If someone would spill it, it would definitely invite a chiding if nothing else from those to whom that person is close, hence the belief that you would fight with someone dear. The second one, that you would lose money is self-explanatory. Salt was considered 'money' or of high value and spilling, it would definitely mean losing money. It is said that Judas had spilt salt during the last Supper, which is one more reason why this is considered bad luck.
2. Mirrors - the superstitions about mirror usually depict it as a portal from where evil spirits come or where your own spirit is tempted to take a look. This is why it is considered bad luck to sleep in a room where the bed reflects into a mirror, as the belief says that your soul or astral body would be tempted or pulled into the mirror. Similarly, mirrors are not usually kept in a room with a dead person for the belief that their soul could be trapped into the mirror instead of leaving to meet God. A third superstition here is that if a mirror suddenly falls from where it is kept in a house and breaks, there would be a death in the family.
3. Gloves - Giving a glove to a friend is considered by many as bad luck. If you look back, once upon a time, duels were provoked by one person throwing a glove to the person whom they wanted to challenge for a duel. A duel was in most cases fought to death, meaning that the throwing the glove would result in at least one death. This could be why giving a glove found its place among the list of bad luck superstitions.
From the examples used above, it is easy to understand that most of the superstitions that we believe today and follow blindly, do have a logical trigger, which can explain their existence.
